Junior Art & Business Program
Video Production for Business: Effective and Concise Video Communication
Faculty Advisor: Award-winning video artist and writer; MFA, NYU Steinhardt School
Research Practicum Introduction
This practicum will provide a practical introduction to video making, focusing on marketing, branding, and internal communications. Students will learn knowledge and techniques of video production and communication strategies. Students will also create their own portfolios of videos and marketing content for business purposes.
Video has become the primary medium for mass communication, and increasingly, jobs are awarded to those who are capable of directing, producing, and developing effective video for communicating a company’s mission and presence to clients, customers, and investors; video is also critical to each business’ internal culture and can help to foster enthusiasm, work ethic, and creative collaboration.
Video is also used across social media platforms for branding, sales, and exposure. Accordingly, moving-image literacy is a critical tool for success in for-profit, non-profit, educational, scientific, and governmental fields. As you develop your video marketing knowledge, you will create a project that will be an excellent addition to your portfolio.
During this program, you will create a portfolio of video and marketing content for a brand: either one that you choose, or one that you make up from scratch. In addition, introductory sessions will be given in video production: camera use, using found footage, editing with Adobe Premiere, and a short intro to motion graphics. We will also have sessions that focus on strategy: What makes a good marketing video? What are the 10 things to avoid when making a video for internal communications? Throughout this program, you will also research the marketing strategies and campaigns of various companies that you admire and conduct presentations about your findings.
