Fall Research Programs: New Year, New Opportunities
Fall is a busy time for students, but it's also a time of growth. Higher grade levels mean new schedules to get used to, new opportunities to explore, and more rigorous curricula to navigate. The balancing act gets even more strenuous for students involved with extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, or after-school jobs. But with these challenges come opportunities for personal and academic enhancement.
Our 2024 fall research programs are now open for application! Participating in fall research is a great way to stride into the spring admissions season with fresh research experience–and potentially recently published material and sparkling new letters of recommendation–under your belt. However, there is a common concern that arises at this time of year, and we’d like to address it.
Do Students Have Time for Fall Research Programs?
Each new academic year brings new challenges, and we at Scholar Launch aren’t blind to our students’ various responsibilities. Because of that awareness, we’ve designed our group and one-on-one research programs to complement rigorous academic and extracurricular schedules, not to overwhelm them.
While the typical research program can last anywhere from 10 to 12 weeks, we ask our scholars for only 4 hours of dedicated study and work a week. In addition to this relatively low time commitment, each research program equips students with resources meant to not only ensure success in our cohorts but also help students manage their time effectively. We offer tools like one-on-one TA sessions, weekly progress tracking, thesis writing and revision assistance, and research publication guidance. Pursuing advanced research in high school can be difficult, but our students never go it alone.
Our diversified and distinguished faculty, made up of more than 300 highly experienced professors and industry experts, makes this hands-on approach possible. Thanks to their years of teaching experience, they know how important proper mentorship is to ambitious young people who may need some extra coaching or encouragement to balance their commitments.
Scholar Launch’s Faculty Advisors and Teaching Assistants are even available for group program alternatives like the Accelerated Research Program (ARP)–ideal for students on a tighter timeline–and the highly customizable one-on-one research programs for those scholars with particularly niche interests. These opportunities exist to give college-bound students options and flexibility.
Summer isn’t the only time for students to explore niche interests outside the classroom. Our research programs may challenge students, in an effort to expand their academic and intellectual horizons, but they’re still manageable and designed to fit nicely into already ambitious course loads. Fall research doesn’t have to seem daunting. With a little time management and some hands-on mentorship from our faculty, our students can achieve incredible things.
